ANNOUNCEMENT: Changes to our editorial line-up, part 3

by JCE September 11, 2017

We are pleased to announce that Lauren Tooker will join the Journal of Cultural Economy as Associate Editor!

Lauren Tooker is Early Career Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Warwick, UK. A political economist focused on the everyday politics of finance, Lauren holds interdisciplinary research and teaching interests in cultural economy, ethics, and social and political theory. Lauren first contributed to JCE with an interview with Bill Maurer entitled “The Pragmatics of Payment,” published after Maurer joined the journal’s editorial team. She has written elsewhere on the everyday politics of debt and credit, financial resistance, and digitally-mediated social and alternative finance. Her current book project documents the growth of new forms of resistance to debt in the UK and the US in the afterlives of the global financial crisis. Her latest research project examines the contemporary turn to digital technologies and data politics to mediate financial relationships between citizens and the state.

Lauren writes:

JCE has always been a must-read for me. Over the past 10 years, the journal has cemented its reputation as the go-to forum for vibrant interdisciplinary debates about the relationships among culture, the social and the economic. I’m therefore delighted to be joining the Editorial Board and to have the opportunity to help build upon the impressive work of past and present editorial members and JCE contributors. At a time when ‘culture’ is being claimed by various political-economic forces to turbulent and often troubling effect, JCE’s commitment to timely and rigorous scholarship on the socio-cultural constitution of economic life is both invaluable and urgently needed.

Please welcome Lauren to the JCE team!
