Bill Maurer

Bill Maurer is Dean of Social Sciences and Professor of Anthropology and Law, University of California, Irvine. He is also the Director of the Institute for Money, Technology and Financial Inclusion. A cultural anthropologist, he conducts research on money and finance, focusing on the technological infrastructures and social relations of exchange and payment. He has particular expertise in emerging, alternative and experimental forms of money, payment and finance, their legal implications, and how they have the potential to challenge the definition and nature of money itself. He received his BA from Vassar College and his MA and PhD from Stanford University.
